Romania's Energy Command has been urgently convened due to rising temperatures and an expected peak electricity consumption exceeding 7,000 MW. Authorities are preparing for increased energy imports, with prices potentially surpassing 200 euros during peak hours. Cristian Bușoi, Secretary of State in the Ministry of Energy, indicated that internal production is being maximized, particularly from coal and natural gas, to meet demand. However, the situation at the Rovinari Power Plant is concerning, with reserves only lasting about two weeks. Looking ahead, September may bring further challenges as economic activities resume, increasing energy consumption and import pressures.
