An experimental CRISPR-Cas9 therapy has significantly reduced LDL cholesterol levels in patients, maintaining effects for over a year. The study, conducted by Cleveland Clinic, involved 15 patients with high cholesterol who did not respond to existing treatments. The therapy targets the ANGPTL3 gene, which regulates cholesterol and triglycerides, aiming to deactivate it in liver cells. Results showed nearly 50% reduction in LDL cholesterol and 55% in triglycerides after two months, with effects lasting for a year. However, the study is in early stages, and further research is needed to confirm safety and efficacy in larger groups.
