The National Emergency Committee (CNSU) has approved a phased plan to ensure the water supply for the Cernavodă Nuclear Power Plant amid low Danube river levels. This plan includes measures to adapt to the river's conditions and maintain safe operations at the plant. Romania has been in an energy alert state since August 1 due to the shutdown of reactors caused by low water levels, which have also affected hydroelectric production. The CNSU's new measures involve releasing additional water from the Olt River to support cooling systems at the plant. The alert status has been extended for 30 days due to ongoing low water levels, with a temporary intervention system planned to direct more water to the plant's intake. If initial measures fail, high-capacity pumps will be used to ensure adequate water supply for cooling.
