CNSAS dezvăluie cifrele: câți oameni avea Securitatea înainte de căderea regimului Ceaușescu

The Department of State Security (DSS) had 14,629 employees at the end of the communist regime, according to newly released data from the National Council for the Study of the Archives of Security (CNSAS). The figures reveal the scale of the surveillance apparatus in Romania. Of the total, 6,023 worked in the central apparatus in Bucharest, while 2,737 were part of the Security Troops. The data also highlights the gender distribution, with only 15.7% being women, and very few in leadership roles. The information was derived from documents dated September 1988, preserved in the files of Iulian Vlad, the last head of the DSS.
