The electronic identity card will gradually take over the health card functions starting September 1, 2026, with the launch of the 'e-SănătateaMea' platform. Current health cards will remain valid alongside the new identity cards until at least August 3, 2031. The transition details and rules for existing cardholders are still unclear, and the electronic card will not store medical data but will serve as a secure access key.
