Circumferinţa taliei ar putea prezice mai bine riscul de boli cardiace decât IMC

Waist circumference is a better indicator of heart disease risk than BMI, according to researchers. Traditional assessments of overweight and obesity rely on BMI, which does not account for fat distribution. Visceral fat around abdominal organs is more closely linked to chronic conditions like heart disease than subcutaneous fat. A study involving over 260,000 participants over 20 years found that individuals with normal weight but high waist circumference had a significantly increased risk of fatal and non-fatal strokes and heart disease. Experts suggest that waist measurements should be included in routine cardiovascular risk assessments.
