The Cypriot government is optimistic about joining the Schengen Area soon, following a positive evaluation from the European Commission. President Nikos Christodoulides emphasized that the decision now rests with the Justice and Home Affairs Council. Ursula von der Leyen is a key supporter of Cyprus's accession, urging member states to accept it. The European Commission will present a report on Schengen's status, which will include Cyprus's readiness. However, concerns remain about the feasibility of implementing Schengen's digital entry-exit system on the island, particularly regarding the management of the Green Line separating the two parts of Cyprus.
