Bucharest's mayor, Ciprian Ciucu, proposes allowing heavy trucks in the city center after 26 years, aiming to boost investment through a special tax. This controversial decision, which would permit trucks in central areas without time restrictions, has raised concerns among residents about increased traffic congestion and pollution. Many drivers fear that the influx of heavy vehicles will worsen the already significant traffic issues, with reports indicating that nearly 50,000 heavy vehicles entered the city last year. The municipality plans to increase fines for those who do not pay the heavy vehicle tax, which could range from 5,000 to 10,000 lei.
