Five EU member states are developing a common mechanism to transfer illegal migrants to centers outside the EU, with initial transfers planned for 2027. Denmark, Austria, Germany, the Netherlands, and Greece have agreed on principles for these "return centers" after a meeting in Copenhagen. The centers will accommodate individuals whose asylum requests have been denied and cannot be returned to their home countries. Potential partner countries for hosting these centers have not been officially disclosed, but Uganda and Rwanda are considered possibilities. The initiative aims to reduce illegal migration to the EU and will involve negotiations with international organizations. However, the plan has faced criticism regarding human rights and legal compliance.
