Five environmental organizations demand full transparency from the Ministry of Environment regarding areas proposed for strict protection in Romania. They argue that the current proposal covers only 2.54% of the country's territory, falling short of the EU biodiversity strategy commitment to protect 10%. The groups highlight that over 90% of the proposed areas are already protected, and they call for the complete mapping of identified natural zones. They stress the need for public consultation and immediate protection of all identified areas to prevent exploitation before the next designation phase in 2030.
