Five former South Korean military officials received prison sentences of up to 18 years for their involvement in the failed Martial Law declared in 2024. The law was enacted by former President Yoon Suk Yeol, who ordered special forces to intervene in Parliament to prevent a vote against it. The court sentenced Yeo In-hyung to 18 years, Lee Jin-woo to 15 years, and others received varying sentences. The accused denied the charges, claiming wrongful prosecution, while Kwak Jong-keun expressed regret for his actions during the martial law declaration. Former President Yoon was previously sentenced to life imprisonment for insurrection.
