The Competition Council is closely monitoring fuel prices, anticipating data from the past week due to significant price increases. President Bogdan Chirițoiu indicated that a new mechanism to cap commercial margins has been introduced. He noted that some operators might have taken advantage of the time before this mechanism took effect. The council's analysis shows that during the previous cap period, Romanian fuel prices were lower than the EU average. Additionally, Mayor Nicușor Dan announced the promulgation of laws addressing the crisis in the petroleum market and extending reduced VAT for housing purchases. Geopolitical tensions have contributed to rising fuel prices, prompting state intervention to protect consumers and stabilize the economy.
