The CPCA reported a 21.2% year-on-year drop in domestic sales, attributed to rising fuel prices and low demand for affordable sedans. In contrast, exports rose by 88.2%, with NEV sales increasing by 147.8%. Overall, the first seven months of 2023 saw a 20.5% decline in domestic sales compared to the previous year. Chinese automakers are focusing on international markets, particularly in Europe and Southeast Asia, to offset domestic challenges. Consumer preferences are shifting towards affordable vehicles, impacting the sales strategies of manufacturers.
