Chevron will begin seismic explorations in several offshore areas of Greece this year, as announced by the Greek Ministry of Energy. The announcement followed a meeting in New York between Chevron's Greece director and the Greek Energy Minister. Operations in the Ionian Sea and south of Peloponnese and Crete are set to start by the end of the year. Chevron acquired a 70% stake in an offshore area from Helleniq Energy earlier this year. The company also holds exclusive contracts for gas exploration in three other deep-water areas near Peloponnese and Crete. Seismic explorations are the first step in assessing hydrocarbon potential, leading to possible drilling decisions.
