Researchers are shifting their approach to Alzheimer's treatment by testing an experimental drug on individuals without memory loss. The study aims to determine if the drug can halt disease progression before dementia symptoms appear. Approximately 1,600 healthy participants aged 55 to 80, deemed at high risk for Alzheimer's, will be recruited globally. The clinical trial, named PrevenTRON, will assess the drug trontinemab, which targets amyloid plaques in the brain. Preliminary results indicate it effectively removes these plaques in early-stage Alzheimer's patients. This marks a significant shift from traditional research focused on treating symptoms to preventing the disease before they manifest.
