Cercetătorii cred că o plantă rară din Antarctica poate deține cheie culturilor rezistente la condiții extreme
Researchers from Chile have mapped the complete genetic structure of a rare Antarctic plant, which may help develop crops resilient to extreme conditions. The plant, Colobanthus quitensis, survives freezing temperatures and high UV radiation. This study could lead to genetic modifications in crops to enhance their adaptability. The research, published in Genome Biology and Evolution, is part of the Polarix project and aims to identify individual genes for future agricultural applications. Commercial applications may emerge within five to ten years.
