Researchers have developed an automated system for analyzing MRI images in preclinical studies of ischemic stroke, aiming to standardize measurements of brain lesions. This system addresses variability in data production across different laboratories, which complicates the evaluation of experimental treatments. The method, tested on images from over 2,400 animals, utilizes deep learning and explicit image processing rules to ensure accurate and verifiable results. The automated analysis showed high concordance with manual evaluations, reducing discrepancies from different MRI equipment and conditions. This approach could enhance the reliability of preclinical studies before clinical trials.
