Cercetătorii au descoperit de ce este încă în viață cel mai bătrân animal din lume

Jonathan, a giant Aldabra tortoise, is the oldest known living terrestrial animal, estimated to be between 192 and 194 years old. Researchers analyzed his DNA to understand his longevity, identifying 287 unique genetic variants linked to aging and cellular health. Born in Seychelles and moved to Saint Helena in 1882, Jonathan's age is remarkable even for his species, which typically lives around 80 years. The study revealed that some of his genes may slow aging processes, particularly in DNA repair and mitochondrial function. Researchers plan to compare Jonathan's genome with more Aldabra tortoises to explore the genetic basis of his exceptional lifespan.
