The shortest war in history lasted between 38 and 46 minutes, resulting in around 500 deaths. This conflict occurred between the Sultanate of Zanzibar and the British Empire, highlighting the colonial struggles in East Africa. Zanzibar, once a major slave trade hub, faced political turmoil after the suspicious death of pro-British Sultan Hamad bin Thuwaini. His successor, Khalid bin Barghash, defied British demands, leading to a swift military response. On August 27, 1896, British forces bombarded the Sultan's palace, quickly overpowering his troops. The war ended with the British victory and Khalid's escape to German-controlled territory.
