The oldest railway station in Romania, built in 1847 in Oravița, became operational in 1854. It was part of the first railway line in the country, connecting Oravița to Baziaș. The station was notable for its architectural features and historical significance, having hosted important figures like Mihai Eminescu and Empress Sissi. In 1869, the first railway station in Bucharest, Gara Filaret, was inaugurated, marking the beginning of railway travel in the capital. The first train from Filaret, carrying Prince Carol I, traveled to Giurgiu in just 90 minutes. However, Filaret lost its prominence after the opening of Gara Târgoviștei in 1872.
