Nine AAV-7 amphibious assault vehicles have officially joined the Romanian Naval Forces, marking the first delivery of 65 ordered from the U.S. These vehicles will be used by the 307th Marine Infantry Regiment and are designed for both land and water operations. Each AAV-7 can carry a crew of three and up to 21 fully equipped soldiers, with a payload capacity of five tons. Armed with a heavy M2 machine gun and a MK-19 grenade launcher, the vehicles were officially introduced on September 28 at the Babadag garrison. The contract for the AAV-7s was initiated in 2023, with deliveries scheduled from 2026 to 2031. U.S. Ambassador Darryl Nirenberg emphasized their significance for Romania's security.
