If a Romanian driver receives a traffic fine in Bulgaria and does not pay it, the fine does not automatically disappear upon returning to Romania. The Romanian Police clarified that Bulgarian authorities can pursue the fine through the European mechanism for mutual recognition of financial penalties, provided the fine is at least 70 euros. The process requires the Bulgarian authority to send the decision to the competent Romanian court for recognition and enforcement. The Romanian Police do not automatically take over the fine, and there is no centralized record of such fines. The enforcement follows Romanian law once recognized by the court.
