As of June 2026, total assets managed by private pension funds in Romania reached 246.2 billion lei, marking a 39% increase from the previous year. The number of participants in the private pension system rose to 9.64 million. The second pillar holds 237.4 billion lei, while the third pillar has 8.78 billion lei. The president of the Financial Supervisory Authority emphasized the importance of long-term performance evaluation of these funds, noting their resilience during financial shocks. Approximately 67% of investments are in fixed-income instruments, and 29% in stocks, contributing to the financing of the Romanian economy. Private pensions are now seen as a structural component of the economy, essential for future financial security.
