Traian Băsescu, former Romanian president, initially retired with a pension of 2,950 lei, which has now increased to over 11,000 lei due to pension law changes. He clarified that not all of this increase is due to the latest recalculation, as part of it comes from previous adjustments. Băsescu expressed that while his pension seems high now, it was low at the start of his retirement after 44 years of service, including significant roles in government.
