This spring, the area sown in Romania fell below 4 million hectares for the first time since 2020, marking an 8.7% decrease from last year. Soybean and corn crops were particularly affected, with farmers reducing their planted areas significantly. The total area cultivated reached only 3.6 million hectares, a decline of 352,700 hectares compared to the previous year. Notably, soybean planting decreased by 22.2%, while corn and sorg areas dropped by 14.21%. Conversely, sugar beet saw a remarkable increase of over 34%, and spring barley and oats also expanded. The vegetable sector experienced moderate growth, with a 3.6% increase in planted areas.
