In Romania, individuals aged 65 and older who have never worked can receive financial support from the state through the Minimum Income Guarantee. This alternative, known as the Minimum Inclusion Income (VMI), aims to prevent extreme poverty and ensure a basic standard of living. The VMI, established by Law no. 196/2016, replaces the previous social assistance and is available to individuals and families in need. Single individuals over 65 can receive up to 504 lei monthly, while vulnerable families can receive up to 346 lei per family member, particularly benefiting families with children under 18. This support not only provides financial assistance but also encourages children's education in disadvantaged families.
