The Constitutional Court of Romania is set to decide on salary arrears for judges and the SAFE program, following a constitutional conflict raised by interim Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan. This conflict arose after a ruling from the Bucharest Court of Appeal mandated the government to ensure full funding for judges' salary arrears due by 2026. Bolojan argues that the judiciary lacks the legitimacy and technical competence to dictate budget allocations, asserting that such decisions are exclusive to the executive and legislative branches. The High Court of Cassation and Justice previously filed a complaint against the government for failing to provide necessary funds, leading to a significant financial claim against the government. Additionally, the court will address a request from the Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies regarding a conflict between the government and parliament over the SAFE program.
