A one-year-old child with severe disabilities was euthanized in the Netherlands, marking the first official case under new regulations allowing euthanasia for children aged one to twelve. The child suffered from extensive brain damage, severe cerebral palsy, epilepsy, and vision impairments. Born prematurely, the child faced numerous complications, leading to a significant decline in development. Despite initial disagreements among medical professionals regarding the child's suffering, an independent assessment ultimately confirmed that the child's condition was unbearable and irreversible. The case was reviewed by a government commission, which concluded that the physician acted in accordance with the established guidelines. The Netherlands legalized euthanasia in 2002, with specific provisions for minors.
