Cattle and pig slaughtering up in July; decreases reported for poultry, sheep and goats (INS)

In July 2026, there was an increase in the slaughter of cattle and pigs compared to July 2025, while poultry, sheep, and goats saw declines. The National Institute of Statistics reported 44,000 cattle and 338,000 pigs slaughtered, up from 41,000 and 298,000 respectively. Poultry slaughter decreased to 37.742 million from 38.952 million, and sheep and goats dropped to 219,000 from 242,000. Carcass weights for poultry and sheep/goats also fell, while weights for pigs and cattle increased. The data was collected through surveys by INS and the Ministry of Agriculture, focusing on consumption-related slaughtering.
