In the 2025-2026 school year, nearly 2.94 million children and students attended pre-university education in Romania, supported by 219,900 teachers. The majority of students were in urban areas, with a significant portion enrolled in public institutions. The primary and gymnasium levels accounted for 45% of the student population, while high school represented 17.9%. Most students studied in Romanian, with a small percentage learning in Hungarian and German. The educational infrastructure included over 3,700 independent schools and a diverse range of facilities. The vocational and post-secondary education sectors had a total of 171,800 students, with a notable gender distribution favoring boys in vocational and girls in post-secondary education.
