Since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, Romania has reported 33 instances of Russian drones entering its airspace, according to the Ministry of National Defense. Over 100 attacks have occurred near the Romanian border, with drone fragments identified in about 50 cases. In 2026 alone, there have been 40 attacks recorded near the border, leading to 34 instances where aircraft were deployed. Additionally, 18 unauthorized drone entries were noted, with three being shot down by Romanian F-16s.
