In Romania, over 44,000 tons of food have been saved from waste in the last decade, providing 96 million meals to vulnerable individuals. The Food Banks Network, established in 2016, has collaborated with numerous charities and companies to redistribute food. Currently, around 340,000 people benefit from this initiative, which has expanded to include nine regional food banks. The effort is supported by legislation aimed at reducing food waste, ensuring that surplus food reaches those in need instead of being discarded.
