Cât crezi că vei trăi? Oamenii își pot estima surprinzător de bine longevitatea

A study on elderly adults in Japan indicates that those who believe they will live longer tend to have a greater lifespan. Surprisingly, many participants underestimated their longevity, with 59% living longer than they expected. The research, led by Shohei Okamoto, analyzed data from the Japanese Aging and Health Dynamics Study, involving 2,447 individuals aged 60 and older. Participants were tracked for up to 28 years, revealing a correlation between their life expectancy estimates and actual lifespan. However, the study does not prove that optimism extends life, as it is observational and still in preprint form. Misestimating longevity can impact financial planning for retirement. Differences were noted among groups, with women and more educated individuals more likely to exceed their life expectancy estimates.
