In the second quarter of 2026, Romania experienced the lowest growth in labor costs within the EU, at only 1.8%. This contrasts with a 3.1% increase in the Eurozone and 3.2% in the EU overall. The modest rise in Romania is attributed to a 3% decline in non-business sector costs, the largest drop in the EU. Sector-wise, labor costs increased by 5.7% in construction, 3.6% in industry, and 2.8% in services. Adjusted figures show a 1.8% rise in labor costs compared to the same quarter in 2025, but a decrease of 0.32% from the previous quarter. Significant increases were noted in construction and extractive industries, while public administration and education saw the largest declines.
