In 2025, the Romanian state collected approximately 584 million lei from tips taxation, contributing to a total of 12.2 billion lei from the HoReCa sector. Despite a revenue increase to 58.44 billion lei, net profits decreased due to rising costs and cautious consumer spending. The sector employed nearly 195,000 people, with restaurants and bars generating about 32 billion lei in revenue. Digital payment methods are changing how tips are given, while the tourism balance shows Romanians spent more abroad than foreign tourists spent in Romania.
