In Țara Hațegului, ancient stones from Sarmizegetusa have been repurposed for building homes and churches, preserving a rich history. Local residents have utilized these valuable stones for centuries, often selling them for significant sums. The area is dotted with remnants of Roman and Dacian heritage, including sarcophagi and inscriptions. Anton Socaci, a local guide, has collected many artifacts, including a Roman sarcophagus in his yard, which he refuses to part with despite interest from museums. The practice of using and trading these stones continues, reflecting a deep connection to the region's past. Unfortunately, many inscriptions have been lost or destroyed over time, but efforts are being made to preserve what remains.
