Căsătoriile și conviețuirile forțate vor fi pedepsite penal
The Romanian Parliament has approved a bill to criminalize forced marriages and cohabitations, particularly for minors, with increased penalties. The law, co-initiated by USR deputy Diana Buzoianu, aims to protect individuals from being coerced into marriages against their will. It defines forced marriage and outlines penalties ranging from 1 to 7 years of imprisonment, depending on the victim's age and circumstances. Additional penalties apply if the perpetrator has control over the victim or possesses dangerous items. The law also mandates public awareness campaigns through media broadcasts for four months after its enactment.
