She emphasized the need for explicit legal recognition of such abuses, particularly when children are involved. Stoiciu highlighted that cultural norms cannot justify forced marriages and thanked NGOs for their efforts in advocating for this legislation. The bill, initiated about a year ago, aims to protect especially girls and women from being coerced into marriage. It stipulates prison sentences for offenders, with harsher penalties for cases involving minors. The law awaits presidential approval to come into effect.
