The National Pension House is embroiled in a major scandal due to the miscalculation of millions of pensions, as revealed by the Court of Accounts. The recalculation process, which took place on September 1, 2024, has led to significant errors affecting over 2 million retirees, with many receiving lower pensions than they contributed. Some pensioners were overpaid despite not contributing adequately, resulting in financial discrepancies totaling 60 million lei for disability pensions alone. Former Minister Bucura-Oprescu, who oversaw the recalculation, and current head Daniel Baciu have been implicated in the mismanagement. The National Pension House has been given until the end of the year to address these issues, but the task of correcting the errors is daunting.
