The theft occurred in Bourgoin-Jallieu when four masked men forced entry and took hundreds of cards before fleeing. Pokemon cards have become highly sought after by collectors, leading to multiple thefts in recent years. In February 2024, three men were sentenced for a similar theft in Rennes, and a rare Pikachu card recently sold for a record 16.5 million dollars. The Pokemon franchise has generated significant revenue, surpassing major toy companies.
