„Cartofii pitici”: de ce scot fermierii din pământ cartofi tot mai mici și ce înseamnă asta pentru Europa

Increasingly hot and dry summers are leading to smaller potatoes in the UK, prompting some farmers to consider abandoning this crop. Tim Rooke, a farmer in North Yorkshire, reports significant losses due to drought conditions, forcing early harvests before potatoes reach desired sizes. With water needs unmet, he warns of a potential end to potato farming. Richard Bramley, another farmer, anticipates a 20-25% drop in production and seeks government support. The GB Potatoes association predicts fewer large potatoes available this year, with wholesale prices already rising over 40%. The issue extends beyond the UK, as potato yields in Belgium, Germany, France, and the Netherlands are also expected to decline significantly due to similar conditions.
