Nighttime driving poses significant risks on Romanian roads, particularly on DN2, which has the highest number of serious accidents. A quarter of all accidents occur after dark due to poor visibility and unmarked hazards. DN2, known as the 'Road of Death', recorded 44 serious accidents this year alone. Other dangerous roads include DN6 and DN1, with 39 and 27 nighttime accidents respectively. In the past two years, nearly 700 fatalities occurred between 10 PM and 6 AM. Local roads also present dangers, especially with unmarked vehicles and poor conditions. Experts suggest improving road signage and lighting, while drivers must remain vigilant and reduce speed.
