The first written word in Romanian, "Petre," appears on a ceramic vessel from the 10th century, discovered in 1967 at Capidava. The inscription, made with Greek letters, is considered the earliest evidence of Romanian language. The vessel was found by two locals near the Danube and later studied by specialists. It features a cross and various Greek inscriptions, with "Petre" likely being the name of the craftsman. This discovery highlights the historical context of the region, transitioning from Roman to Bulgarian and Byzantine influences. The vessel is now displayed at the National Museum of Romanian History.
