In August 2026, Romania's average net salary decreased by 2.3% to 5,688 lei, while the gross average salary fell by 2.2%. This marks the 14th consecutive month of declining real wages. The highest net salaries were in IT and oil extraction, while the lowest were in other services and aquaculture. The decline in salaries is attributed to previous bonuses and lower production outcomes. Notable decreases were seen in vehicle manufacturing and engineering activities. Conversely, some sectors experienced salary increases due to bonuses and higher production achievements. Compared to August 2025, the average net salary rose by 5.6%.
