Starting September 1, 2026, the health card will be replaced by the electronic identity card for patient identification in the CNAS system. The transition will be gradual, allowing current health cards to remain valid for those without the new ID. The CNAS president confirmed that both systems will operate simultaneously for a period. The new electronic identity card will not store medical history but will serve as a secure identification method. The 'e-SănătateaMea' platform will provide access to various medical information, although its use will not be mandatory. Current health cards will still be valid until further regulations are established.
