As of September 18, gasoline averaged 9.97 lei/l and diesel 10.78 lei/l, with minor increases noted. Compared to the EU, gasoline prices are 8% lower with taxes, while diesel is 7% lower. Internationally, diesel prices have surged, reaching a peak of 1,648.5 USD/ton, while gasoline also saw significant increases. The theoretical gross margins have compressed, indicating that rising international prices have not fully translated into retail price increases. Diesel remains a sensitive issue due to supply challenges and geopolitical risks, although recent factors have helped stabilize the market. The analysis highlights that Romania's fuel prices have generally trended below the EU average, with significant implications for market dynamics.
