Romania has been importing electricity due to decreased national production caused by drought and nuclear reactor shutdowns. As of September 28, 2026, national consumption was 5,480 MW, with production at 6,317 MW, allowing for an export of 836 MW. The PZU is managed by OPCOM, which oversees trading in electricity and natural gas, and is responsible for transaction settlement and market reporting.
