The ongoing heatwave in northwestern Romania poses challenges for both people and animals, prompting zoo staff to provide frozen fruits and cool water to help them cope. At the Oradea Zoo, animals seek shade and water to escape the heat, with caregivers preparing cold meals and refreshing their habitats regularly. Visitors are also affected, with many leaving during peak heat hours. The heat has led to lethargy in shelter dogs, who are provided with shade and frequent water changes. Veterinarians advise pet owners to walk their animals early or late to avoid heat-related issues, as cases of heatstroke have increased significantly. A red heat alert remains in effect, with temperatures expected to reach up to 41 degrees Celsius.
