The Romanian Parliament is set to implement a voluntary plan to phase out wood-burning stoves in households, with grants available for new heating systems. Over 3.5 million homes currently use wood stoves. The initiative, part of a legislative package for PNRR funding, aims to replace these stoves with alternative heating solutions such as geothermal sources, heat pumps, and solar collectors. Participation in the replacement program will be voluntary, and the initiative does not impose a general obligation to replace existing heating units. The proposal will be voted on in the Chamber of Deputies and then in the Senate during an extraordinary session.
