Canada is seeking to join the EU's €90 billion financial support program for Ukraine, allowing Kyiv to purchase defense equipment from Canadian companies without EU restrictions. The European Commission confirmed Ottawa's interest, with ongoing technical discussions. The loan aims to cover two-thirds of Ukraine's financial and military needs for 2026-2027, with other Western allies contributing the rest. Currently, the program requires purchases to be 'Made in Europe', but Canada's participation would enable Ukraine to bypass this condition. Ottawa would also share in the interest costs of the loan, with details still under negotiation. The EU is encouraging more countries to support Ukraine, following Norway's recent pledge of $9 billion for 2027.
